About the project

At the rear of our clients home, there once stood an elevated timber deck, this has been removed prior to our initial meeting. Our clients had a clear plan of what worked and didn’t from the old space and came to me with a design and spec of deck which extended out from both patio and kitchen doors. With steps from the doors out onto the main areas this helped to reduce the overall height of the deck.

CAD designs & client consultation

We produced, at the quotation stage some CAD illustrations as we do for every quotation. This showed differing board options for layouts colours and under decking cladding options.

Framing & Foundations

As always, we construct our frame and foundations to the best possible standards using the best materials and construction methods. Our framing choice for this project was aluminium from Outdure along with recycled plastic framing. This framing combination created a solid and stable foundation for the decking and cladding boards to be fixed to.

Decking board choice and colours

That’s the initial consultation we showcase the full range for Millboard as the clients were looking for a natural colour. Golden oak was the initial choice along with Ashwood as both of these colours give a lovely warm natural feel to the deck.

Detailing

•Bullnosed 150mm boards were used around the front and sides of the deck and the steps, these intersections were mitre cut and fitted.

•Contemporary Horizontal Timber fencing installed by the main deck area improving privacy and providing a natural backdrop to the deck.

•Under deck access doors installed to give access to valuable storage area.

•Decking boards installed with grain direction alternative to give a more natural appearance.

Balustrade

The deck was finished with a stainless steel post and glass balustrade using laminated toughened glass along with brushed stainless steel posts. On both sides of the steps a handrail was added above the posts to give a more suitable access off and onto the deck.
