About the project
Our clients asked us to replace a softwood timber deck that had recently become worm and looking past its best. They had kept up with the maintenance with regular cleaning and oiling but wanted to upgrade to a premium composite decking that required less maintenance but still continued to look good year after year.
The deck is located to the back of the house, with an extension leading out onto the deck.
Materials
We re-built the deck using Trex® composite decking from the Transcend range in ‘Island Mist’ Grey. The deck has a perimeter ‘Picture frame’ where the fixings are hidden under the surface of the board using colour match plugs leaving not visible fixings. Trex® composite decking comes with a 25 year warranty, so where a deck is to be rebuild we also rebuild the frame using the best timber, fixings & methods.
A matching fascia board was also fitted to the framing under the picture frame.
The stainless steel balustrade was re-used. Once the balustrade was re-installed the deck was looking great and ready for the clients to enjoy their outdoor space again.

Framing
With the decking platform being at least 1m above ground Timber was a great choice for the framing. We source the best quality UC4 Treated C24 timbers which give the decking structure a long lasting and secure base.
Top of the range structural screws were used to construct the frame then once the timber sub frame was complete we covered all of the top surface with a market leading deck protective tape, which seals around the fixing screw to limiting the amount of water ingress into the frame thus expanding the life of the structure.
