Trex Naturals Foggy Wharf decking & balustrade design and installation.

About the Project

This deck was designed to replace our clients elevated timber decking, cladding and balustrade. The deck was against the back of the house which lead up to the rear patio doors. The old deck lead to some paved steps outside the back door, which the client requested to be replaced in order to increase the size of the deck and to make everything safer, level and looking good. A gate was also required at the end of the main deck.

The owners and dogs will be loving this space for years to come.

Materials

As our clients were replacing a timber deck, they were looking at our composite ranges. They opted for the Trex Naturals range in Foggy Wharf Grey. We installed breaker boards and picture frame to create an aesthetically pleasing appearance to the deck board layout.

The fixings of the Trex decking boards to the frame consisted of Nylon Clips with Stainless Steel screws which were inserted between the boards and screwed in. The outer boards were fixed using stainless steel colour match screws to blend into the colour of the board, giving a clear finish.

As the deck was greater than 600mm off the ground surface, a balustrade was required. The clients choose a black steel railing system, which was fixed to the side of the framing. This helped to maximise the space on the decking.

To finish the deck, all of the underside and deck risers were clad using tantalised timber, which were installed vertically. The timber was left unstained for the clients to either leave to naturally silver, or for them to add a clear or coloured oil in the future. An access gate was also added to the scheme as part of the under deck cladding. This provided a small storage area for our clients.

Frame

This deck was constructed on UC4 treated C24 timbers. This frame was fixed to concrete pads using HDPE recycled plastics posts, which were installed into galvanised anchors.

All of the timbers in the frame works were protected with Walther Strong deck tape. This creates a waterproof barrier to the top face of the timbers and helps to protect the timbers from the weather. The tape extends to lifespan of the frame.

Client Review / Testimonial
